Philippine crime incidents in last 8 months down by 8%, PNP says

The number of crime incidents in the country recorded from January to August 2022 has gone down by 8%, compared to the data from the same period last year, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Sunday.

Interviewed on Super Radyo dzBB, PNP spokesperson Police Colonel Jean Fajardo said the total crime incidents and several index crimes -- against against persons and property -- decreased throughout January to August 15 this year.

However, theft increased by 8.62% this year, as well as robbery by .49%.

Fajardo also took note of recent incidents of abductions and killings reported in several parts of the country, saying that many of these have been already resolved.

“Hindi natin maikakaila na in recent weeks ay may mga naitala tayong insidente ng pagdukot, pagkawala, at ilang araw ay nakikitang patay na ang biktima. Subalit, ang mga naitala nating insidenteng ito ay naresolba na ng PNP at nahuli na ang suspek, nakasuhan, at kasalukuyang naka-detain sa ating mga police stations,” she said.

(We cannot deny that in recent weeks we have recorded incidents of abduction, disappearance, and killing. However, these have been resolved by the PNP and the suspects were caught, charged, and currently detained in police stations.)

Fajardo on Thursday said the PNP recorded 25 incidents of kidnapping from January to July 2022, most of which were related to the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO), and have been resolved. —LBG, GMA News
