After as many as 4,000 trucks crammed some major roads in Metro Manila Wednesday night, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority will fine-tune its truck ban for the ongoing Asian Development Bank governors' board meeting.

MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino said Thursday the trucks carrying "urgent" items like aviation fuel appeared to cram some major roads once the 4 a.m.-to-9 p.m. truck ban ends.

"Yung pagdagsa ng 4,000 na truck, nagdulot ng [heavy] traffic. Yan ang pagme-meeting-an natin ngayon para maremedyo ang pagbulusok ng volume [ng sasakyan]," Tolentino said in an interview on dzBB radio.

Otherwise, he said traffic had been relatively smooth in major thoroughfares of Metro Manila during the day Wednesday, the first day of the ADB meet.

The MMDA will be imposing a truck ban in Metro Manila until Saturday to ensure smooth traffic in the metropolis during the ADB meet.

But Tolentino said some truck operators delivering aviation fuel had asked to be exempted from the ban.

"Kagabi nagdulot kaunting pagkakagulat sa iba at may traffic sa Magallanes area. Sa gabi kasi sabay-sabay sila nagdatingan. Gusto nila magkaroon at least dalawang biyahe hinahabol nila," he said. — RSJ, GMA News
