With School Year 2013-2014 just days away, the police in Metro Manila are aiming for zero crime in school zones, at least on the first day of classes on June 3.

Metro Manila police chief Director Leonardo Espina ordered the five districts under his command to iron out their security plans, radio dzBB's Sam Nielsen reported.

Espina said he wants zero crime on the first day of classes on Monday. The Department of Education (DepEd) had set that date for the start of classes in the elementary and high school levels.

He reminded his men to be particularly wary of snatchers and muggers who may exploit students who may be unfamiliar with their schools.

But he also reminded students not to show off their valuables or cash, lest they attract criminals' attention.

He said criminals will likely target students with large amounts of cash or with valuables such as jewelry or electronic gadgets. - VVP, GMA News
