Gunmen kill retired 'ninja cop' in Manila


Unidentified gunmen killed a suspected "ninja cop" inside a gym in Sta. Ana, Manila on Monday night.

Senior Inspector Romeo Estabillo, chief of Manila Police District Station 6, identified the victim as Dennis Padpad.

Estabillo said Padpad's was last assigned in Sulu after an internal cleansing by the Philippine National Police. The victim retired from the service last year.

"Sabi nila dati raw member ng ninja cop. Siya po talaga ang target," the station chief said.

Ninja cop is a term used to describe a policeman involved in drugs.

Padpad was working out in a gym along Augusto Francisco Street in Sta. Ana when at least four gunmen shot him. The incident happened around 6 p.m.

Estabillo said that based on initial results of crime scene investigations, Padpad sustained at least 10 gunshot wounds in the body and his head.

Two more persons in the gym were injured by stray bullets.

Police are reviewing CCTV camera recordings in the area to identify the victim's shooters. —report from Mav Gonzales/ALG, GMA News
