The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) immediately responded to the fire alarm at the bakery, which is located at the corner of Judge Jimenez Street and K-1st Street in Quezon City.

The fire started at around 1 a.m. and reached the first alarm. At 2:36 a.m., the BFP declared the fire under control.

Neighbors reported hearing loud sounds which could be gas tanks exploding or glass windows shattering, according to a report on Unang Balita on Tuesday by Jay Sabale.

Since the bakery was built in 1939, its foundation may have weakened, which may have allowed the fire to quickly spread.

Initial investigation showed the fire started from the stockroom on the second floor where baking supplies, papers, and other items are kept.

However, firemen are also looking into the possibility the fire may have been sparked by another fire earlier in the day next door.

"Ang tinitingnan natin, sir, kung  may pumasok na alipato apoy mula du'n sa kabilang sunog kanina," said BFP chief investigator Inspector Rosendo Cabillan.

Fire inspectors will also check if the personnel of the bakeshop used candles.

Authorities are still determining the total damage to property.

Bakery owner Wilson Lee Flores posted on his Facebook account that he is currently out of the country but assured that the bakers and staff members of the 79-year-old shop were evacuated.

He also said on Instagram that one working student almost got burned but was able to escape.

Flores thanked firemen, Filipino Chinese volunteer fire brigades, and others who helped put out the fire.
