DOJ says murder of QC prosecutor Rogelio Velasco ‘solved’

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has solved the murder of Quezon City Deputy Prosecutor Rogelio Velasco, who was killed in May, the Department of Justice said.

In a statement, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said the case has been solved and charges have been filed against three police officers before the Quezon City Office of the City Prosecutor.

“NBI solves murder case of QC deputy city prosecutor Rogelio Velasco. files murder charges against 3 police officers with the OCP-QC," he said, but did not elaborate.

On Monday, the NBI identified the policemen as SPO2 Rodante Sicat Lalimarmo, PO3 Arthur Yasonia Lucy, and PO1 Jose Lunar Mercado. The bureau also recommended murder charges against other unidentified individuals.

The resolution comes after the Quezon City Police District formed a task force to probe the May 11 incident in which a man alighted from a car blocking Velasco's vehicle and opened fire, hitting him several times.

Velasco's children, who were in the vehicle with him, survived the ambush and rushed him to the East Avenue Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead of "sustained multiple gunshot wounds on different parts of his body."

The formation of the task force also came on the heels of the fatal shooting of Jonah John Ungab, the lawyer of confessed drug distributor Kerwin Espinosa, and the failed ambush on lawyer Argel Cababtbat in Quezon City. — Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/BM, GMA News
