More than 7,000 cops to secure Traslacion 2019 —Eleazar

More than 7,000 policemen will be deployed to secure the Feast of the Black Nazarene on January 9, according to National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Director Guillermo Eleazar on Wednesday.

"Sa atin pong preparation, we will be fielding around 7,100 police personnel kasama na po 'yung augmentation nito," Eleazar said in an interview on Unang Balita.

"Basically around 2,000 plus will be coming from the Manila Police District and 5,000 from other districts pati na 'yung regional mobile force battalion."

The NCRPO chief assured the public that authorities are prepared for the event as they are expecting some 2.5 million devotees to join the feast. He also said traffic advisories would soon be released to the public.

Eleazar said authorities are still studying if mobile phone signals will be shut down during the event, but added "No Fly Zone" and "No Sail Zone" will surely be implemented to ensure the safety of the public.

"Pinag-aaralan po natin 'yun pero definitely no fly zone, no sail zone. Ito po 'yung ating isinagawa na mga request through the Department of Transportation para siguraduhin ang seguridad ng lahat ng dadalo," he said.

The Traslacion is the re-enactment of the transfer of the image from Intramuros to the Quiapo Church in 1787. The feast, one of the country's popular religious events, pays homage to the image of Jesus Christ in maroon and gold vestments carrying a cross. —Anna Felicia Bajo/KBK, GMA News
