Eleazar, MPD chief berate Manila cop nabbed for drugs

National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Police Major General Guillermo Eleazar scolded a cop who was nabbed for allegedly using illegal drugs.

An Unang Balita report by Vonne Aquino on Friday identified the suspect as Police Officer 1 Ferdinand Rafael who was accused of peddling illegal drugs. A surveillance video also showed that Rafael was using illegal drugs inside his apartment in Sampaloc, Manila.

"Sa ating kapulisan, alam naman nila na talagang mortal sin for the policeman na gumamit ng droga dahil ito ang laging sinasabi natin, itong ating internal cleansing, zero tolerance, no compromise tayo pagdating sa droga," Eleazar said.

"Hindi naman talaga siya considered na malaking drug pusher, just peddler... resorting to peddling para siguro matugunan 'yung kaniyang bisyo..." he added.

Eleven sachets of suspected shabu worth P102,000 were seized from the suspect as well as a weighing scale and other drug paraphernalia.

Meanwhile, Police Senior Superintendent Vicente Danao Jr., district director of the Manila Police District (MPD) was also furious about the incident.

Danao was further enraged when Rafael admitted not being familiar with the name of his superiors, including Danao himself.

Eleazar also scolded him for that: "Anong klaseng pulis ka? Hindi mo alam anong pangalan ng district director mo, hindi mo alam ang first name ng iyong immediate supervisor?"

Rafael will be facing charges for violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act as well as an administrative case.

His supervisor from the Traffic Sector 8 will also be relieved from post, the report said. — Anna Felicia Bajo/MDM, GMA News
