Navotas mayor appeals to DSWD to choose beneficiaries

Navotas Mayor Toby Tiangco on Saturday appealed to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to choose the beneficiaries for its emergency subsidy program instead of local authorities.

In Mav Gonzales' report on 24 Oras Weekend, Tiangco said that those not chosen to receive the subsidy may feel that there was politics involved in the selection process.

"We will do whatever job they want, basta sila lang mamili nu'ng beneficiaries para walang appreciation na may pulitika, may favoritism, merong 'di sinama," Tiangco said.

The mayor also expressed confusion and concern over the wide-spread distribution of social amelioration card forms, saying that this may give residents false hopes.

"Papaasahin natin 'yung tao. Magfi-fill-up sila back and forth, two pages, tapos wala naman pala sila mata-tanggap," Tiangco said.

Health workers of Barangay San Jose in Navotas distributed social amelioration card forms on Saturday.

"Nag bahay bahay po kami, para maiwasan po natin na magkalat sila sa daan at ginawa po namin yung worker inassing namin na mag area-area po sila," Barangay Chairman Ernan Perez said.

Once the documents have been passed to the DSWD, the financial assistance may be given to selected beneficiaries by Monday.
