AMID COVID-19 QUARANTINE

Taguig mayor warns residents against engaging in leisure, outdoor activities

Taguig City Mayor Lino Cayetano on Thursday reminded residents and visitors of the city, specifically Bonifacio Global City, to avoid engaging in outdoor and leisure activities amid the enhanced community quarantine.

According to Cayetano, the city government has received reports, including photos and videos, of individuals supposedly doing outdoor activities despite the quarantine.

“Our front-liners are working hard to keep you safe. When you evade the rules of the ECQ, you not only endanger yourselves but others also. You also take time and valuable resources from areas where they are most needed," Cayetano said in a press release.

He said authorities would not hesitate to arrest those who will violate the guidelines of the strict quarantine.

Cayetano said the Taguig police have arrested and charged over 15 ECQ violators in BGC, which include foreigners. He added that throughout the city, authorities have apprehended more than 500 violators, as of April 9.

The mayor said Taguig City has 30 confirmed cases of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

He called on residents to cooperate in the city's measures on preventing the spread of COVID-19.

"We have been doing extensive contact tracing, disinfection and containment in BGC and the rest of Taguig, but we need citizens to cooperate,” Cayetano said.—AOL, GMA News
