44 barangay chairs in Manila in hot water over undistributed cash aid

Forty-four barangay chairmen and other officials in Manila City are subjects of complaints by residents over undistributed cash subsidy.

According to a 24 Oras report by Chino Gaston, the Manila City Hall received reports of residents who had not yet received aid promised by the national and local government.

At Barangay 386, Norhaina Wali was made to sign a paper regarding the cash subsidy but never received the money.

“May pamilya po ako, dalawa po ang anak ko. No work, no pay po ang asawa ko. Kaya po paanong hindi ako maghihinaing sa kanila? Sobrang sama ng loob ko sa ginawa nila sa’kin,” she said.

The barangay secretary explained that Wali’s name did not make it to the first list of beneficiaries.

“Kasi dalawa ‘yung pinipirmahan. ‘Yung isa sa City Hall isa-submit namin. ‘Yung 402 [beneficiaries] nakasulat, talagang… 402 lang,” barangay secretary Jelbie Sabulao said.

Aside from the 44 barangay chiefs, one treasurer and one secretary are also facing complaints from residents.

Mayor Isko Moreno has ordered them to explain.

“‘Yung binigay ng City hindi nila pinamimigay, binabawasan nila, pinapalitan nila, tapos ‘yung mga cash na pinamimigay ng City ay hindi nakukuha,” the mayor said. -Julia Mari Ornedo/MDM, GMA News
