Recipients of Makati’s P5k cash aid now at 200k

More than two weeks after the launch of its Makatizen Economic Relief Program (MERP), the Makati City government has already distributed the P5,000 cash aid to about 200,000 qualified individuals, Mayor Abby Binay said Thursday.

Interviewed on Dobol B sa News TV, Binay said the city government is targeting to distribute at least P1 billion financial assistance by the end of the week. They started the distribution on May 11.

“(It is still) ongoing… It only took us 18 days to hit 200,000 beneficiaries… hopefully (we hit) P1 billion by the end of the week,” she said.

Under the MERP, the city government allotted P2.7 billion to provide cash aid to residents amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Binay said a total of 500,000 Makati residents are set to benefit from the relief program.

“Mayroon ho tayong qualification na 18 pataas na may Makatizen card or yellow card o kayo po ay botante,” she said.

“Mayaman, mahirap, nakatanggap ng (social amelioration program), ‘di nakatanggap ng SAP, puwede pa rin makatanggap ng (P5,000 cash aid),” Binay said.

For those who do not have a Makatizen card, Binay said they could apply online or they could submit an application form to their respective barangay.

Binay also said the city government has partnered with GCash for the contact-free delivery of the cash aid to residents.

She added the distribution of food packs and other cash assistance for senior citizens, jeepney drivers, persons with disabilities, and solo parents are still ongoing.—AOL, GMA News
