Commuters to undergo safety protocols before riding metro trains

Commuters will be required to undergo strict safety protocols and social distancing measures before they can ride passenger trains starting on Monday amid the more lenient general community quarantine in Metro Manila.

According to Vonne Aquino’s report on "24 Oras Weekend" on Sunday, commuters will be first screened using a metal detector, while their things will be checked through an x-ray machine.

After the initial screening, their body temperatures will be checked then they would be given disinfectants or alcohol by the station guards.

Commuters will then queue based on markings on the floor to ensure physical distancing will be observed.

Inside the trains, seats are also marked so commuters will know where to sit and stand.

Nineteen trains will be deployed on the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT3) on Monday, including three sets from Dalian.

The DOTr said only 153 passengers will be allowed per train set to comply with physical distancing protocols against COVID-19.

The first trip from North Avenue Station will be at 5:30 a.m., while the last trip will be at 9:10 p.m.

Meanwhile, the first trip at the Taft Avenue Station will be at 5:30 a.m., while the last trip will be at 10:11 p.m.

Moreover, the four pick up and drop off points for the bus augmentation starting on Monday will be at North Avenue, Quezon Avenue, Ayala Avenue, and Taft Avenue. — Ma. Angelica Garcia/DVM, GMA News
