LSIs camp out at bus stop while awaiting flights home

Several locally stranded individuals (LSIs) have been camping out at a bus stop on Andrews Avenue in Pasay City while awaiting their flights back home to their provinces.

According to Dano Tingcungco’s Sunday report on “24 Oras Weekend,” no LSIs have been seen outside Terminal 3 of the Ninoy Aquino Terminal Airport recently compared to previous days since the area is now being monitored by police and airport personnel.

At a waiting shed along Andrews Avenue, however, several LSIs have been camping out with their luggages.

“Wala na po kasi kaming matirahan. Dito na lang po kami maghihintay hanggang sa makaalis na po kami,” said Warda Abang, who was headed for Davao del Norte early Sunday morning but learned that her flight was canceled upon arrival at the airport.

Abang said she went to the Philippine Army Gym, which has been accommodating LSIs, but was not allowed in since her flight was rebooked on July 1.

“Canceled nga po ‘yung ticket namin tapos sabi dito sa amin kailangan naming pumunta doon sa Fort Bonifacio daw po. Tapos ‘yung ibang kasama namin, pumunta do’n, ‘di naman daw pinapasok,”Noraisa Mail Cadil, another LSI, added.

The Army said over 400 LSIs are staying at its Complex as of Saturday while a total of 1,200 have received help and nearly 800 have been sent home to their provinces. — Julia Mari Ornedo/BM, GMA News
