Some spending Sunday on CCP grounds skip social distancing

Several Filipinos flocked to the Cultural Center of the Philippines Complex in Pasay City on Sunday to exercise, with many ending up close together despite the prevailing guidelines on social distancing and the ban on mass gatherings.

According to a “24 Oras Weekend” report, most of the people at the Complex were wearing face masks but some groups formed clusters without observing social distancing.

Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto Rubiano said she would deploy policemen to monitor the area and to enforce social distancing measures.

The Department of Health (DOH) issued a reminder on social media regarding social distancing and mass gatherings following the incident.

“The DOH strongly urges the public to stay at home and limit their outside exposure to essential activities. The COVID-19 virus does not take a day off. The risk of contracting the virus remains real,” it said.

“High density and populous places should be avoided by the public to prevent the transmission of COVID-19,” the department added. — Julia Mari Ornedo/BM, GMA News
