1,006 more traditional jeepneys in Metro Manila to resume operations
A total of 1,006 authorized traditional jeepney units are expected to ply Metro Manila roads Wednesday after the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) approved the opening of 10 more additional routes, Unang Balita reported.
Based on Memorandum Circular 2020-043, the routes that will resume operations are:
- T138 EDSA/North Ave. - Quezon City Hall
- T139 Marcos Ave. - Quirino Highway via Tandang Sora
- T340 Dapitan - Libertad via L. Guinto
- T341 Divisoria - Retiro via JA Santos
- T342 Divisoria - Sangandaan
- T395 Libertad - Washington
- T396 Baclaran - Escolta via Jones, L. Guinto
- T397 Baclaran - QI via Mabini
- T398 Blumentritt - Libertad via Quiapo, Guinto
- T399 Blumentritt - Vito Cruz via L. Guinto

Only roadworthy traditional jeepneys complying with health protocols and with valid Personal Passenger Insurance Policy are allowed to operate even without a special permit. The jeepney operators and drivers will instead be given QR codes which they need to print and display on their unit.
The QR code can be downloaded from the LTFRB website.
However, a driver from Caloocan City said they were not able to download the QR code.
“Hindi pa po kami nakakapagdownload ng QR code kasi hinihintay namin kagabi na magflash sila sa TV kung paano idownload. Lumalabas 'yung QR code, ang problema wala sa ruta namin kaya hindi pa po kami makakabyahe ngayon,” Rolando Perpetua told GMA reporter Darlene Cay.
Meanwhile, another Caloocan jeepney driver started the day prepared as he has already downloaded the QR code and put protective shield on his unit.
Gerardo Antipuesto said the resumption of the operation would give them a chance to earn a living and pay their debts.
“Masaya dahil may makakain na kami, pangalawa pambayad ng utang, ang laki na ng utang ko. Pinahirapan kami nang husto, after six months ngayon lang kami makakabyahe,” he said.—AOL, GMA News
