Manila resumes COVID-19 vaccination on Black Saturday

Amid the rising cases in the country, the Manila city government continued its vaccination program against COVID-19 on Black Saturday.

In its public information office Facebook page, the local government unit announced that persons included in the A3 category or residents aged 18 to 59 with comorbidities will be inoculated with COVID-19 vaccines.

Residents with the following comorbidities will be accommodated in the vaccination sites: chronic respiratory disease, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney disease, malignancy, diabetes, obesity, tuberculosis, chronic liver disease, cerebrovascular accident, among others.

As of 11:30 a.m., the Manila government said it has inoculated 3,091 individuals belonging to the A3 category.

It designated two schools in each of its six districts as vaccination sites:

• Emilio Jacinto Elementary School and Isabelo Delos Reyes Elementary School in District 1;
• Osmena High School and Benitez Elementary School in District 2;
• Bonifacio Elementary School and Pedro Guevarra Elementary School in District 3;
• Ramon Magsaysay High School and General Malvar Elementary School in District 4;
• Rafael Palma Elementary School and Justo Lucban Elementary School in District 5; and
• Jacinto Zamora Elementary School and EARIST College in District 6.

Residents would need to present a medical certificate issued in the last 18 months, prescription for maintenance drugs issued in the last six months, hospital records such as discharge summary or medical abstract, or surgical and pathology records to show existence of comorbidities.  

Caloocan City, meanwhile, said it will also continue its vaccination drive for active medical and healthcare workers on Black Saturday.

In an advisory posted on Caloocan City Mayor Oscar Malapitan’s Facebook page, the inoculation of medical frontliners will be held at Bagumbong High School, Deparo Elementary School, Camarin Elementary School, North Caloocan Elementary School, Dela Costa Elementary School, Pag-asa Elementary School at Caloocan High School.

As of March 31, Caloocan City has inoculated 5,154 medical frontliners, 1,532 senior citizens, and 2,416 persons with comorbidities.

San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora also announced on his Facebook page that the city government will continue its vaccine rollout on Saturday for senior citizens at persons with comorbidities.

In a Facebook Live, Zamora said the vaccine rollout was “so far, so good” and the registered residents were being accommodated properly at the San Juan Arena vaccination site.

He assured his constituents that the vaccination will continue as long as there are supplies coming from the national government.

The 100,000 vaccines that the San Juan City government has procured are expected to arrive in June or July, Zamora said.

Meanwhile, in Quezon City, the vaccination of healthcare workers and persons with comorbidities aged 18 to 59 will resume on Sunday, April 4. —Hana Bordey/KG/MDM, GMA News
