Quiapo church reopens for fully vaccinated devotees, unvaccinated pray outside

After the government placed Metro Manila under Alert Level 4, Quiapo Church in Manila on Thursday only allowed fully vaccinated visitors to enter the church while the unvaccinated stay outside.

In Jun Veneracion's "24 Oras" report, Quiapo Church may allow devotees inside of up to 10% of its capacity for vaccinated individuals and 30% capacity for unvaccinated churchgoers staying outside.

Some devotees favored this rule of prohibiting unvaccinated individuals inside the church to ensure protection from COVID-19.

"Mas okay yung policy para organized po tayo, sure na walang kakalat na sakit. (This policy is okay so that it will be organized and be sure that no one will get infected.)," a devotee said.

The Department of Health said fully vaccinated people must still wear masks

and follow health protocols as they can still infect and contract COVID-19. Vaccines can only prevent severe infection of COVID-19.

Meanwhile, a pregnant churchgoer was surprised over the restrictions against unvaccinated people after she was barred from going inside Baclaran Church.

"Allowed lang pala fully vaccinated. Paano naman po kami? (Only those fully vaccinated are allowed, but how about us?)," the visitor said, refusing to identify herself.

A security guard of the church, however, was not in favor of letting pregnant women outside of their houses, adding that pregnant women and their babies are at risk of getting infected.

Last Aug. 12, pregnant women were already included in the government's priority group for COVID-19 inoculation. DOH also said pregnant women must not avail Sputnik V vaccines. —Consuelo Marquez/LDF, GMA News
