Nine nuns of the Religious of the Virgin Mary (RVM) aged 70 to 98 years have died due to a COVID-19, the Catholics Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) reported on Thursday.
Citing a statement from RVM Secretariat, the CBCP report said all the fatalities had comorbidities. The first COVID-related death inside the convent was recorded on Sept. 13 while the most recent was on Sept. 21.
The nuns were among the 100 RVM personnel who tested positive for COVID-19. Of that number, 62 were nuns.
The RVM compound, located in Quezon City, has been on lockdown since Sept. 15.
"Among the 62 Sisters afflicted, two are already fully recovered, 38 are experiencing mild/moderate symptoms, and 13 are considered severe," the RVM statement said. —KBK, GMA News
