BOC principal examiner shot in Manila

A principal examiner of the Bureau of Customs was hurt after an unidentified motorcycle rider shot him in Sampaloc, Manila on January 14.

According to Nico Waje's report on "24 Oras" on Sunday, the shooting incident occurred at Barangay 466 past 7 p.m.

Based on CCTV footage, the victim was in his car when a rider fired at him through the window.

The gunman immediately fled.

The victim sustained injuries in the neck but is now recovering in the hospital.

"Fortunately, hindi siya napuruhan kaya nagawa niya pang maka-maneuver at makapunta sa kapatid niya somewhere sa Malate," Manila Police District PIO Police Major Philipp Ines said.

The BOC said this is the third time its employees were involved in an ambush.

The first two employees were being investigated regarding corruption in the agency.

"Basing you know that the targets have been identified and 'yong closeness ng incidents, of course, hindi naman maalis sa amin at sa mga tauhan namin na medyo mag-isip na baka may pattern," BOC assistant commissioner Vincent Maronilla said.

He, however, said the recent victim was not involved in the investigation.

The BOC is offering a P300,000 reward to those who can help locate the suspect.

The Philippine National Police and the National Bureau of Investigation are also looking into the matter. — Ma. Angelica Garcia/BM, GMA News
