Superintendent, 5 jail guards relieved over Bilibid prison break

The superintendent and five guards in the maximum security compound of the New Bilibid Prison have been relieved from their posts due to the January 17 jailbreak, a report said on Thursday.

According to a report by Emil Sumangil on Super Radyo dzBB, Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) spokesperson Gabriel Chaclag confirmed the relief of Superintendent Arnold Guzman.

The investigation is looking into the possible collusion of jail guards with the fugitives, the report said.

According to the BuCor, four inmates escaped from the national penitentiary.

Two of them were killed during manhunt operations by authorities, while the other two are still at large.

One of them is Drakilou Falcon, who was convicted of robbery with homicide and illegal possession of firearms, and with pending cases of double murder, frustrated murder, attempted murder, and robbery.

Also still at large is Chris Ablas, who was convicted of robbery with homicide and sentenced to reclusion perpetua without parole.

Three jail guards and an inmate were hurt after the inmates fired shots while escaping. The victims were brought to Ospital ng Muntinlupa for treatment. — BM, GMA News
