Metro Manila mayors have yet to come up with a recommendation on the COVID-19 alert level classification that will be implemented in the region next month, Pateros Mayor Miguel Ponce III said Thursday.

"Sa ngayon po ay wala namang rekomendasyon pa ang ating Metro Manila Council sa ating IATF (Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases) kung ano ang magiging alert level classification natin starting February 1," Ponce said at the Laging Handa briefing.

(As of now, the Metro Manila Council has made no recommendation yet to the IATF on the possible alert level classification starting February 1.)

The NCR is under Alert Level 3 until the end of January.

On Wednesday, OCTA Research said the COVID-19 situation in the NCR has improved to "high risk"

from a "severe outbreak" classification last week.

Citing data from the Department of Health (DOH), OCTA said the seven-day average of cases in the NCR was down from 15,782 (January 12 to 18 period) to 6,280 (January 19 to 25).

The one-week average daily attack rate (ADAR) also plunged from 111 (January 12 to 18) to 44 (January 19 to 25).

The COVID-19 reproduction number, meanwhile, has improved to 0.63.

Reproduction rate refers to the number of people infected by one case. A reproduction number that is below 1 indicates that the transmission of the virus is slowing down. — VBL, GMA News
