Cops assemble at Comelec main HQ in Manila in anticipation of protest rallies

A throng of police assembled on Wednesday in front of the Commission on Elections' head office in Intramuros, Manila to secure the area, following information that a group of militants is going to stage a protest rally.

Manila Police District (MPD) Director Police Brigadier General Leo Manaog Francisco said police personnel were called over to secure the area from any possible situation, according to a tweet by Super Radyo dzBB reporter Isa Avendano-Umali.

Meanwhile a rally was held at the Liwasang Bonifacio in Manila condemning what protesters consider as a fraud- and irregularity-ridden May 9 local and national polls, according to Umali.

Groups belonging to the youth and labor sectors gathered in front of the Comelec main office in Intramuros, Manila, on Tuesday to protest the results of the recently concluded elections.

Among the groups that participated in Tuesday's rally were Kabataan, Karapatan, Bayan, Kilusang Mayo Uno, and Kontra Daya.

The groups were reportedly opposed to the possible victory of former senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. in the presidential race.

Marcos has been leading the partial and unofficial count of votes, data from the Comelec Transparency Media Server showed.

On Wednesday as of 1:47 p.m., Marcos had 31,080,487 votes as against his nearest rival, Vice President Leni Robredo, who got 14,810,097 in the partial and unofficial results. —LBG/KG, GMA News
