One dead in fire in Sta. Mesa, Manila

A senior citizen died in a fire that hit a residential area in Sta. Mesa, Manila before dawn on Wednesday.

The fatality was a 60-year-old male, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said, according to a report by Nico Waje on GMA News' Unang Balita.

The fire incident along V. Mapa Street reportedly started at 4:30 a.m.

Residents woke up as a neighbor passing by banged on their doors to inform them of the fire engulfing their homes.

Many of them were not able to save any of their belongings.

The BFP declared fire out at 5:53 a.m.

Authorities are still investigating to determine the cause of the fire.

The BFP estimated the property damage to reach P500,000. —KG, GMA News
