Motorists advised to take alternate routes amid EDSA Kamuning flyover closure

Authorities advised motorists to take alternate routes as the southbound portion of the EDSA-Kamuning flyover would be closed for 30 days for repairs starting Saturday, June 25.

According to Joseph Morong’s “24 Oras” report on Friday, the closure would  start at 6 a.m. on Saturday. The flyover would be opened on July 24.

“Hihina po yung tulay dahil nga po mababawasan siya ng isang spot kaya namin sinara. Babakalan namin, dadagdagan namin ng reinforcement at saka namin bubuhusan ng seven-day concrete. Seven days before opening niya,” Quezon City district engineer Eduardo Santos said.

(The bridge might collapse because it will be reduced by one spot that is why we closed it. We will add steel reinforcements, and then we will pour seven-day concrete.)

Personnel of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) conducted clearing operations on several alternate routes including Samar Avenue and Scout Borromeo Street.

At least 23 motorists received violation tickets, while 12 vehicles were towed.

The lower road section or service road of the flyover would be open, however. There would also be a barrier on the portion with cracks.

GMA Network Drive would remain a one-way route going to EDSA with motorists still allowed to turn right into EDSA from here.

The alternative route would have motorists turn right at Scout Borromeo Street to Scout Ybardolaza Street, going to Judge Jimenez Street, passing E. Rodriguez, and going to New York Avenue to EDSA.

Motorists were also advised to avoid the portion of the EDSA Kamuning flyover by using the Mabuhay lanes.

“Okay naman din sir, kasi magagamit din naman natin ito 'pag oras na kailangan natin,” a driver said.

(It's okay sir, because we can also use it when we need it.)

“Kailangan eh, mag-iibang daan na lang po,” another driver said.

(It's necessary, we have to take a different path.)

Authorities advised motorists to take the alternate route to avoid inconvenience.

“Mahabang pasensya at kung maari po yung madalas na dumadaan dito eh humanap na rin po tayo ng mga alternate routes papunta sa ating mga destination para hindi masira yung schedule niyo or oras niyo,” Santos said.

(Motorists will have to be patient. Those who pass by here often, let's also look for alternate routes to our destinations so as not to ruin your schedules.)

A hole was seen at the EDSA-Timog portion of the flyover last June 17 which led to its closure.
