Operations at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) were temporarily suspended on Tuesday night due to inclement weather.

“Flight and ground operations at the NAIA are suspended,” the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said in an advisory.

The suspension of operations was triggered by a lightning red alert issued by PAGASA at 9:10 p.m.

“The alert is a safety measure taken to prevent untoward incident from happening when lightnings are prevalent in the immediate area and may endanger personnel, passengers and even flight operations,” MIAA said.

MIAA resumed flight operations shortly after PAGASA lowered the lightning red alert to yellow as of 9:20 p.m.

In its latest weather bulletin, PAGASA said Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. — Mel Matthew Doctor/BM, GMA News
