DOH: NCR’s dengue cases up 16% from May 22-June 4, 2022

The National Capital Region (NCR) recorded 533 dengue cases from May 22 to June 4, 2022, a 16% increase compared to the cases reported two weeks prior, the Department of Health (DOH) said.

In its latest dengue report on Tuesday night, DOH noted that there were 458 cases recorded from May 8 to May 21, 2022.

At least 13 people have also died in NCR due to dengue, with the region posing a 0.3% case fatality rate.

Of these 13 deaths, four occurred in February, two in March, two in April, three in May, and two in June.

The DOH said NCR recorded a total of 3,975 dengue cases from January 1 to June 18, 2022. This was 1% higher than the reported dengue figures during the same period in 2021 with 3,945 cases.

During this period, most of the dengue cases were reported in Quezon City with 729 cases (18%); Caloocan City with 502 cases (13%); Manila City with 501 cases (12%); Taguig City with 472 cases (12%); and Valenzuela City with 444 cases (11%).

However, from May 22 to June 18, 2022 where 844 dengue cases were recorded, DOH said that the areas with most dengue cases were Quezon City with 192 cases (23%); Caloocan City with 170 cases (20%); Taguig City with 100 cases (12%); Valenzuela City with 83 cases (10%); and Malabon City with 64 cases (8%).

The whole country logged 51,622 cases of dengue from January 1 to June 18, which was 58% higher compared to cases reported during the same period last year at 32,610.

Former Philippine Medical Association president Benito Atienza said the number of dengue cases in the Philippines has become alarming.

The DOH earlier reminded the public to practice the 4S behaviors for the fight against dengue: Search and destroy breeding places; Secure self-protection; Seek early consultation; and Support fogging or spraying in hotspot areas, especially now during the rainy season. — RSJ, GMA News
