MMDA to deploy 581 enforcers in schools for face-to-face classes — Nebrija

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) will deploy 581 personnel in roads leading to and near public schools in light of the resumption of face-to-face classes, an official said Friday.

Interviewed on GMA News’ Unang Balita, MMDA Task Force Special Operations chief Bong Nebrija said the agency has been coordinating with local governments in preparation for the resumption of classes.

“We will be manning schools, 581 po ang itatalaga namin doon mismo sa eskuwelahan, 146 public schools in Metro Manila, nakatalaga po yan doon,” he said.

(We will be manning schools. We will designate 581 personnel in 146 public schools in Metro Manila.)

“Aside from that, we will be manning the intersections, pedestrian lanes…,” he added.

The MMDA also conducted misting, fogging, and clearing operations around schools as part of the preparation, Nebrija said.

The Department of Education earlier set the opening of classes on August 22.

On Thursday, the MMDA said it is set to implement an expanded number coding scheme in Metro Manila starting August 15 from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in light of the face-to-face classes.

Under the scheme, vehicles with license plates ending in 1 and 2 are prohibited on Monday, 3 and 4 on Tuesday, 5 and 6 on Wednesday, 7 and 8 on Thursday, 9 and 0 on Friday during the scheduled time.

Nebrija said MMDA would not apprehend violators of the expanded number coding scheme for the first two days of its implementation.

He said they would inform the public first about the expanded number coding.

“Hindi naman huli agad. We will take the first two days maybe to inform the public. Siyempre hindi sanay na may number coding sa umaga. We will introduce this slowly with public information…” he said.
