More or less 9,500 cops will be deployed in Metro Manila to secure the resumption of face-to-face classes, National Capital Region Police Office chief Police Brigadier General Jonnel Estomo said on Wednesday.

Estomo told reporters he will have a meeting with unit commanders to discuss their operations for the August 22 opening of School Year 2022-2023.

“More or less ganyan ang ating ide-deploy (More or less 9,500 cops will be deployed),” he said.

Meanwhile, the newly installed NCRPO director said he will work on intensifying random checkpoints and police visibility in Metro Manila.

While admitting that the NCRPO has limited resources, Estomo expressed confidence that the local government units will support their security efforts.

Estomo said police efforts against illegal drugs will continue. Asked about the possible return of “tokhang”, Estomo said “no comment”.

He also gave the assurance that erring cops will be held accountable under his leadership.

Asked about reports that some police allegedly are helping motorists to settle their traffic violations, Estomo said he would look into the matter. —KG, GMA News
