2 suspects in Percy Lapid slay caught on CCTV — police

Authorities are now in the process of identifying the two suspects in the fatal shooting of broadcaster Percy Lapid after they were caught on CCTV camera, a Southern Police District (SPD) official said Wednesday.

“May dalawa na possible perpetrators na nahagip ng (We have two possible perpetrators who are caught on) CCTV. Effort is being exerted to identify them,” SPD deputy district director for operations Police Colonel Restituto Arcangel told GMA News Online in a message.

In a statement, the Las Piñas City government on Wednesday vowed justice for the slain journalist and expressed condolences to his family.

“The killing of journalists is a direct attack on press freedom and curtails people's right to truth and expression. The Las Piñas City Police has formed a special task force to immediately investigate this heinous crime,” it said.

“We extend our heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the bereaved family and vow to bring justice for Percy,” it added.

Lapid was shot dead by two men while on his way home in Barangay Talon Dos, Las Piñas City around 8:30 p.m. on Monday.

According to a relative, Lapid was on his way home to do an online broadcast at the time of the incident.

Witnesses said Lapid was onboard his vehicle when the SUV of one of the suspects suddenly bumped the rear portion of his car.

The other suspect, who was onboard a motorcycle, shot the victim and fled to an unknown direction, the police said.

Lapid was the host of the online broadcast program “Percy Lapid Fire” at DWBL 1242 and a columnist for Hataw. — RSJ/KBK, GMA News
