BuCor to deploy K-9 units at NBP following discovery of contraband

By GMA Integrated News

The Bureau of Corrections (BOC) will deploy K-9 dog units in the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) as part of its measures in intensifying its fight against the smuggling of contraband inside the national penitentiary.

According to a report on “State of the Nation”, this developed after BuCor seized 70,000 cans of beer and other smuggled contraband inside the NBP on Wednesday.

The police dogs can smell not only illegal drugs but also mobile phones and electronic devices. Bomb-sniffing dogs were also deployed, the report said.

“Di naman magsisinungaling mga ‘yan. Ang handler ang very crucial kasi baka mamaya yung handler naman ang ma-corrupt,” said BuCor officer-in-charge Gregorio Catapang Jr. in Marisol Abudrahman’s report on “24 Oras”.

BuCor said it is still investigating  55 of its personnel who were assigned to the NBP over the incident. Some inmates named them, the report added. —Sundy Locus/NB, GMA Integrated News
