MIAA issues lightning red alert, NAIA flight and ground ops halted temporarily

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) issued a lightning red alert on Saturday afternoon amid heavy rains.

The lightning red alert was issued at 2:16 p.m. by the MIAA Airport Ground Operations and Safety Division (AGOSD).

With this, flight and ground operations at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport are temporarily suspended.

According to the MIAA, the issuance of the alert is done "to prevent an untoward incident from happening when lightnings are prevalent in the immediate area and may endanger personnel, passengers, and even flight operations."

Flight operations resumed at 3:20 p.m. when the lightning alert was lowered to yellow. —KG, GMA Integrated News
