MMDA suspends roadworks in NCR until first week of January

By GMA Integrated News

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has suspended roadworks on the major thoroughfares in the capital region until the first week of January in anticipation of the heavy traffic due to the Christmas season.

According to Mark Salazar’s report on “24 Oras” on Monday, the MMDA imposed the suspension on the permits for road works from Monday, November 14 to January 6, 2023.

It is one of the agency’s traffic management measures as the volume of vehicles plying EDSA reverted back to the pre-pandemic level.

MMDA said at least 380,000 to 401,000 vehicles are currently using the thoroughfare, with a 10% to 20% monitored increase in motor vehicles in Metro Manila a week before the commemoration of All Saints’ Day on November 1.

Last week, the MMDA announced it had an agreement with mall owners and operators in Metro Manila to adjust their operating hours from 10 a.m. to  10 p.m. to 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. starting November 14 to prevent the influx of mall goers, workers, and students in the establishments near EDSA. -Sundy Locus/NB, GMA News
