4 alleged ID, document counterfeiters nabbed in Manila

Authorities arrested four alleged ID card and document counterfeiters in a compound along Manila's Recto Avenue, GMA Integrated News' Nico Waje reported Sunday on 24 Oras Weekend.

According to the Manila Police District's Special Mayor's Reaction Team (MDP-SMaRT), the Manila Social Welfare Office had alerted them to the counterfeiting activities.

Offers for the counterfeiting of persons with disabilities IDs were said to be rampant on social media, with an ID costing P350.

Arrested were Daniel Corsino, J.R. Pasco, Amadeo Caballes Jr., and Jeson Labargan.

"Doon sa post nila, di ka na pipila sa ganito. Sa restaurant, 20% discount, ganoon. Talagang nilu-lure nila ang mga tao," said MDP-SMaRT Investigation Section Chief Police Captain Edgar Julian.

Based on the documents seized during the arrest, the suspects allegedly forged numerous other kinds of IDs, receipts, and property titles.

While some of the suspects admitted to limited involvement in the counterfeiting activities, suspect Corsino, who was allegedly caught manipulating a fake document and negotiating with undercover cops, denied the allegations against him.

However, he did admit that he used to forge documents.

"Nadamay lang po ako," said Corsino. "Nagbago na po ako. No comment po." — DVM, GMA Integrated News
