By GMA Integrated News

A tricycle driver and his passenger, a public school teacher, were killed after their trike and an SUV collided at the intersection of General Malvar and Tirad Pass near EDSA in Caloocan City.

According to Emil Sumangil's report on "24 Oras", the driver of the SUV was identified as an 18-year-old student.

A bystander was also injured in the accident.

The tricycle driver was identified as Benjamin Lazaro, 60; and his passenger was Ma. Cecilia Chua, 50.

The driver of the SUV, John Usher Chua, is facing complaints for reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide, multiple physical injuries, and multiple damage to property.

“Sabi ng driver nung tinapakan niya yung preno hindi agad ito kumagat, kaya kinabig niya ito. Sumalpok na siya sa kotse,” Police Corporal Dennis Michael Natividad said.

Chua’s passengers during the accident were some of his classmates. Authorities said they were all safe.

“Meron silang parang school project na isinasagawa at activity nila ito para sa kanilang eskwelahan,” Natividad said.

Chua declined to comment.

Authorities are now coordinating with the families of the victims.

Barangay officials said they would place humps at the intersection after several accidents have happened in the area.
