Some NCR LGUs announce resumption of face-to-face classes as transport strike ends

Several local government units have announced the resumption of face-to-face classes after the transport strike has ended.

In an advisory, Quezon City, Pasig City, Malabon City, Las Piñas City, Paranaque City, Caloocan City, and Muntinlupa City announced the resumption of face-to-face classes on Thursday, March 9.

Ateneo de Manila University has also announced the resumption of onsite classes at the Loyola Schools from March 9 to 11.

Meanwhile, Caloocan Mayor Dale Gonzalo "Along" Malapitan said that online classes would continue at the University of Caloocan until March 12.

On Tuesday night, transport groups announced the end of what was supposed to be a week-long protest after their meeting with government officials, including Presidential Communications Office Secretary Cheloy Garafil, the former chair of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board.

Transport groups called the strike a "success" as officials agreed to revisit the guidelines of the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program.

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., meanwhile, said he wants to ensure that no driver of public utility vehicles will lose their job amid the PUV modernization program. He also thanked the transport groups' decision to end the strike.

Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista, for his part, clarified that they did not recommend the "immediate" phaseout of traditional jeepneys under the program. — Sherylin Untalan/ VAL/VBL, GMA Integrated News
