Manila police say suspect in killing of local official not a soldier

The Manila Police District (MPD) said that the suspect in the killing of a local official in Malate is not a member of the Philippine Army.

According to “24 Oras” report on Friday, the MPD Station 5 said it is still validating if the suspect is a military reservist.

The police said the suspect cannot provide an ID even though he gave his serial number to the authorities.

It also said that the suspect is not a soldier who is on absence without leave (AWOL) status which he earlier disclosed in the media.

The suspect is scheduled to face inquest proceedings for murder on Friday.

According to a “24 Oras” report on Thursday, the victim was shot dead inside a beer house in Malate Manila.

The police said the suspect got angry when the local official said he cannot do anything when the Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau clamped his car in front of the beer house.—Richa Noriega/LDF, GMA Integrated News
