NBI nabs 4 suspects in fake gov't projects scam

The National Bureau of Investigation arrested four suspects allegedly involved in peddling fake government projects, according to John Consulta’s “24 Oras” report on Tuesday.

The arrest was made after several contractors filed a complaint before the NBI over the projects being offered by the suspects purportedly amounting to around a billion pesos.

The projects, however, are fake and non-existent

“The contract is supposed to be for P1.3 billion. Meron daw hinihingi at balanse na (They were asking for a balance of) P2 million. Because we already have documents to signify that the contracts are non-existent at forged ang mga dokumento, falsified ang mga dokumento, we set up an entrapment operation,” NBI anti-fraud division chief Palmer Mallari said.

GMA Integrated News sought the side of the suspects, but they declined to comment.

“Because there are documents falsified, obviously falsification yan, and for the money taken from our victims, estafa yan. So probably we will be filing a complex case of multiple counts of estafa through falsification of public documents,” Mallari said.—Richa Noriega/LDF, GMA Integrated News
