Bato: Possible for cops to present bogus informant to claim reward for 996-kg Manila shabu haul

It is possible for policemen to present a bogus informant to claim the reward for the confiscation of 990 kilograms of shabu in Manila last year, Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa said Monday.

“Most likely, gusto nila i-claim ang reward kung wala silang informant, kasi wala naman talaga silang mabigay ng informant, ‘di ba? I don’t know kung wala talagang informant. Baka sila talaga ang informant. Posibleng sila ang informant,” Dela Rosa, a former Philippine National Police chief, said in an ANC interview.

(Most likely, the policemen wanted to claim the reward especially if they have no informant Apparently, they cannot name their informant. Maybe they are the informants. It is possible.)

“Kung wala silang mai-present na informant, baka mag-produce sila ng peke na informant, na bogus na informant para lang legally ma-claim ‘yung reward at sila na ang maghahati-hati,” he added.

(If they cannot present one, they can produce a fake or bogus informant so they can legally claim the reward and they can get their share.)

In a Senate hearing last week, PNP Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG) Special Operations Unit 4A arresting team head Captain Jonathan Sosongco was cited for contempt

for failing to provide the phone number of his informant in the 990-kilogram shabu haul in Manila last year.

Dela Rosa expressed disappointment to Sosongco for apparently lying before the committee on the tipster who informed him of the shabu in Manila.

In October 2022, now-dismissed Police Master Sergeant Rodolfo Mayo Jr. was arrested after authorities confiscated shabu worth P6.7 billion during a series of anti-drug operations in Manila.

Mayo was an intelligence officer for the PDEG, based on police records.

Police officers allegedly pilfered around 42 kilos of shabu from the illegal drugs seized from Mayo.

Due to the alleged cover-up of the incident, criminal and administrative charges were recommended against 49 PNP officials and personnel. —KBK, GMA Integrated News
