3 Koreans arrested for alleged possession of P6-M 'shabu'

Three Koreans were arrested for alleged possession of suspected shabu worth about P6 million, according to the report of John Consulta on "Saksi."

One of the suspects was identified as the escapee from the detention facility of the Bureau of Immigration (BI) more than a week ago.

The Manila Police District Mayor's Quick Reaction Team members and BI - Fugitive Search Unit arrested 38-year-old Kang Ju Chun inside a condo unit in San Juan City.

The team arrested two other Koreans as well as confiscated about one kilo of suspected shabu that is worth P6 million.

The BI said Kang escaped from their facility last May 21 by stacking various objects and going over the fence.

BI spokesperson Dana Sandoval said the investigation into Kang's case is ongoing to determine if there were personnel who committed lapses, raise the wall around the facility and enforce this with barbed wire, and to cover blind spots in the area by constructing an additional watch tower.

Kang is listed under Interpol red notice for allegedly killing his wife in Korea, the police said. The suspect denied the allegation.

The suspects had little to say about the allegations against them.

MPD District Director Police Brig. Gen. Andre Dizon said they enlisted the help of the Korean embassy in translating the content of a cellphone that was recovered from one of the suspects. -- BAP, GMA Integrated News
