Stevedore in critical condition after being stabbed by co-worker with umbrella
A stevedore in Parola Compound in Manila is in critical condition after he was stabbed with a broken umbrella by a coworker during an altercation.
According to Marisol Abdurahman’s report in “Saksi” on Thursday, police investigation showed the victim accused the suspect of spitting on his slippers. The victim retaliated by also spitting on the suspect.
“Nagkaroon sila ng physical confrontation, at dumura naman itong biktima na sinita naman nitong ating suspek at nauwi ito sa pananaksak,” said Manila Police District spokesperson Police Major Philipp Ines.
(They had a physical confrontation, and the victim spat which the suspect called out. This eventually led to stabbing.)
The suspect was arrested in a follow-up operation, but he denied stabbing the victim.
“Hindi ko po siya sinaksak, sir…Madilim kasi sa eskinita namin,” the suspect said.
(I did not stab him, sir…It was dark in the alley at that time.)
According to the testimony of a witness, the suspect grabbed a broken umbrella from a trash can which he used to stab the victim’s chest. But the said umbrella was not recovered, the report said.
Further investigation also showed the suspect and the victim already were involved in a past conflict.
The suspect is facing a complaint of frustrated murder. —Vince Ferreras/RF, GMA Integrated News
