Driver in EDSA-Shaw road mishap in critical condition – report

(Updated 11 a.m.) MANILA, Philippines – The driver of the van which figured in a road accident at the corner of the Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) and Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong City remains in critical condition, a radio report said Thursday. Radio dzBB’s Denver Trinidad reported that Emmanuel Fajardo, 44 years old, was rushed to the nearby Victor Potenciano Memorial Medical Center (formerly Polymedic General Hospital) in Mandaluyong after the van he was driving slammed into an armored van. The report said that rescue teams from the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and Mandaluyong City government rushed to the area to extract Fajardo, whose feet were pinned in the van. The road accident snarled traffic in Shaw Boulevard and at EDSA’s northbound lane, the report added. The armored van was then taken to the Mandaluyong City police headquarters.
