Groups supporting Aquino rally vs Corona near Senate
Groups allied with President Benigno Aquino III held a rally near the Philippine Senate compound in Pasay City before noon Thursday, calling for the disclosure of details into impeached Chief Justice Renato Corona's bank accounts. The protesters numbering about 100 were from the "Black and White Movement" and Akbayan, according to a report by radio dzBB's Nimfa Ravelo. Police anti-riot teams kept their distance but did not allow the group to go further than the area near the Film Center, the report said. During the rally, the groups reiterated their call for Corona's conviction. The rally was held a few hours before the Senate acting as an impeachment court was to resume Corona's impeachment trial hearings. Both groups are allied with Aquino, having supported his presidential bid in 2010. Then Akbayan Rep. Theresia Baraquel (a.k.a. Risa Hontiveros) ran for senator under Aquino's ticket in 2010 but was defeated. Another Akbayan member, Ronald Llamas, is now Aquino's adviser on political affairs. — LBG, GMA News
