Police on Friday killed two suspected members of a crime syndicate following a shootout on Rizal Avenue in Manila. Chief Supt. Jesus Versoza, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) chief, said his office received information the notorious Waray-Waray Group would pull a heist on Rizal Avenue. At around 1 p.m., CIDG’s Anti-Organized Crime and Business Concern spotted a group of men loitering around the premises of Equitable Bank. When the officers tried to accost four of the men two drew handguns and shot the policemen who fired back. The incident resulted in the death of two men whose identities were not immediately available. The two other men escaped on board a van. Police said based on the bank’s security camera, the men arrived at the bank’s premises around 12 noon. The shootout happened nine hours after alleged Waray-Waray gang leader Peter Soriña and three of his men were killed in a shootout with police in Taytay, Rizal. Soriña’s group has been implicated in the abduction of a businessman in Rizal several years ago. – GMANews.TV
