PNoy sisters visit mother's tomb on 80th birth anniversary
President Benigno Aquino III's sisters on Friday visited the tomb of their mother, the late President Corazon Aquino, to mark her 80th birth anniversary. The sisters of the president offered flowers and prayers to their mother at the Manila Memorial Park in Parañaque City before noon, radio dzBB's Sam Nielsen reported. The report said the sisters thanked the late former leader for being a good mother and example to them. President Aquino is presently in Switzerland to attend the World Economic Forum and will not be back until Sunday. Mrs. Aquino was hailed as an icon of democracy for her role in ousting then strongman Ferdinand Marcos in a bloodless revolt in February 1986. She had led protests against Marcos after the assassination of her husband, late Sen. Benigno Aquino Jr., in August 1983. Mrs. Aquino died on Aug. 1, 2009 after a battle with colon cancer. Her death triggered a wave of sympathy that prompted then-Senator Aquino to run in the 2010 presidential race. — LBG, GMA News
