NDRRMC: Death toll since May 10 now at 7 dead, 19 hurt in poll-related incidents

At least seven people were killed while 19 were injured in incidents related to the May 13 midterm elections, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Monday night.
 
In its 7 p.m. update, the NDRRMC noted at least nine incidents, including seven shootings, one explosion, and one robbery, with the incidents dating back to May 10.
 
Several incidents of power interruption were also noted on election day, the NDRRMC also said.
 
Casualties
 
The casualties from the shooting deaths included:
 
- One dead, one injured in a shooting incident at 11 a.m. Sunday in Bai Tambabay National High School in SK Pendatun, Maguindanao. Killed was Abas Minsu, district school superintendent of SK Pendatun and member of the municipal board of election canvassers. His nephew Khadaffy Minsu is in critical condition.
 
- One dead, one wounded in an ambush of Datu Baba Omar, a mayoralty candidate for South Upi in Magiundanao, at 5:30 p.m. May 11. Killed was Omar's driver Nasser Kuag, while one Torno Omar was wounded.
 
- One wounded in a shooting in Kawayan, Biliran at 10:35 a.m. of May 11 in Barangay Tocdao in Kawayan town. The injured was identified as Norberto Nierras.
 
- One killed, six wounded in an encounter between suspected New People's Army rebels and a platoon of the 3rd Marine Battalion Landing Team in Gingoog City in Misamis Oriental at 6:40 a.m. of May 11. One NPA was killed while six soldiers were wounded.
 
- One killed, one wounded in a shooting incident in Borongan City, Eastern Samar at 4 a.m. May 11. Killed was PO1 Agerico Afable, and Glecerio Gema was wounded.
 
- Two killed, six wounded in a shooting in Bataraza, Palawan at 11:45 p.m. of May 10. The shooting was between supporters of mayoralty bets Katrina Ibba and Mulsinin Abdurajik.
 
- One killed, two wounded in shooting in San Policarpio, Eastern Samar at 7 a.m. of May 10.
 
On the other hand, reelectionist Kadingilan Mayor Joelito Jakusalim Talaid was shot in the left leg when he fought robbers in Don Carlos, Bukidnon at 3 a.m. of May 11.
 
Meanwhile, six to eight men aboard three motorcycles tried to rob the mayor and four companions at Barangay Bocboc in Don Carlos, Bukidnon. They shot the mayor's Hilux pickup (KDE-755) and declared a robbery.
 
Meanwhile, the NDRRMC also received a report of an explosion that occurred in Inopacan, Leyte at 1 a.m. of May 12, in front of the house of barangay chairman Celso Malaguis at Barangay Conalum in Inopacan. No one was reported hurt.
 
Power outages
 
On Election Day, the NDRRMC noted power interruption at some villages in Dasmariñas City in Cavite at noon. The Manila Electric Co. said this was due to lightning hitting one of the power lines. Electric service eventually resumed.
 
Also, parts of Laguna experienced power interruptions.
 
In Batangas, power interruption was experienced at Barangay Turibio in Lipa City at 11:14 a.m., but power was back at 12:55 p.m. The local electric cooperative said a transformer near Barangay Turibio Elementary School had caught fire.
 
Power interruptions were also experienced in four villages in Lipa CIty at 7:55 a.m. but the situation normalized at 9:55 a.m.  — ELR, GMA News
