Robredo sees Daang Matuwid as an asset despite its imperfections
Despite the imperfections of the Aquino administration’s ‘Daang Matuwid (righteous path)’ mantra, Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo on Sunday said the outgoing administration will leave a government that is in better shape than how it was six years ago.
In the “Harapan ng Bise” vice presidential debate sponsored by ABS-CBN, Robredo was asked how she would respond to the critics of the Liberal Party's Daang Matuwid slogan.
Daang Matuwid became the battlecry of the LP's Benigno Aquino-Mar Roxas tandem in the 2010 elections to rally support for the then opposition to the administration of Gloria Macapagal Arroyo whose term was saddled with corruption and electoral fraud accusations.
Daang Matuwid was then adopted by the Aquino administration as its
centerpiece program which refers to a clean form of governance by fighting corruption.
However, Daang Matuwid became associated with inept governance as the Aquino administration got mired in controversies and a myriad of problems like poor mass transport system, heavy traffic in Metro Manila, the Mamasapano incident, Yolanda and the recent Kidapawan crisis among others.
“Hindi po perpekto ang ating gobyerno pero hindi po natin maikakaila na ang buhay po natin ngayon, labis na mas mabuti na kumpara noong anim na taong nakalipas,” Robredo, the LP's vice presidential bet, said.
Robredo said it is important to recognize the achievements of the administration.
However, she said she would bear the accountability of government’s mishaps.
“Ang mga pagkukulang ay pupunuan, ang mga pagkakamali ay isinasaayos,” Robredo asserted.
Asked whether she thinks the criticisms over the Daang Matuwid would be a liability or an asset for her campaign, Robredo said it would be both.
“Liability dahil kami po ang ang sumasalo sa mga tuligsa sa gobyerno. Pero asset rin kasi po ‘yung mga papuri sa gobyerno kami rin ang nakikinabang,” Robredo said. — APG,GMA News
