Duterte to 3 corrupt police officials: Quit or ‘I will humiliate you’

President-elect Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday night told three "corrupt" Philippine National Police (PNP) officials to resign to avoid humiliation.

"Corruption must stop. Itong pulis, itong pulis must stop," Duterte told the crowd during a thanksgiving party for him at the Crocodile Park in Davao City. "I will have to ask about three generals 'dyan sa Crame to resign. And do not wait for me to name you in public because I will only humiliate you."

The president-elect then said that cases against police officers would be reviewed.

He also said that these alleged corrupt police officers get away with it by  delaying court cases until witnesses can no longer be located.

These officers then return to the police force and "they wreak havoc."

Duterte also threatened to order the killing of policemen who are involved in the illegal drug trade.

"Don't take this as a joke. Hindi ako nagpapatawa," he said.

‘Kill’ criminals

Duterte also urged common citizens to police their own neighborhoods, and that they should directly arrest criminals.

"Feel free to call us, or do it yourself if you hava a gun," urged the president-elect. "I support you."

Duterte explained that common citizen who arrest criminals should bring suspects to a police stations. However, if a suspect resists, the arresting citizen can use deadly force.

"In an arrest you have to overcome the resistance of a criminal. And if he (the suspect) resists you can kill him," Duterte clarified. "If lumaban at may baril, barilin mo, I will give you a medal. And if you do it everyday, gawin kitang chief ng PC."
