Canadian PM Trudeau arrives in Clark for 31st ASEAN Summit

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau arrived at the Clark International Airport in Pampanga on Sunday to join other world leaders on the 31st Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

As he stepped off the plane, Trudeau waved and gave a thumbs up to the crowd. The Canadian leader was welcomed by Department of Science and Technology (DOST) chief Fortunato Dela Peña and other government officials.

A smiling Trudeau also took time to greet performers along his way toward his assigned vehicle.

Trudeau is one of the dialogue partners of the 10-member regional block.

Trudeau is the 23rd Prime Minister of the North American country, where Filipinos are known to be one of the largest non-European ethnic groups.

Trudeau was in the Philippines in 2015 to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit.

An environmental group recently called on President Rodrigo Duterte to tell Trudeau to take back Canada’s garbage that it exported to the Philippines as misdeclared recyclable materials in 2013. — Anna Felicia Bajo/BM, GMA News
