Duterte warns: AFP, PNP to use rubber bullets, truncheons vs. PISTON

President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday warned those who would defy the jeepney modernization program, specifically the Pinagkaisang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Opereytor Nationwide (PISTON), that the military and the police are preparing against them on their protests.

Duterte pointed out that PISTON already expressed that it would not follow the modernization program.

"Itong PISTON, hindi raw sila magsunod. Ganito raw… Sige, subukan natin. I'm preparing the Armed Forces and the police to buy rubber bullets, prepare for truncheons," he said.

"I don't care if we go into turmoil. I like that. I thrive in turmoil," he added.

Duterte previously waned jeepney drivers that he would drag their vehicles if they won't follow the modernization program.

"Sumunod kayo kasi January 1 [2018], kapag may makita ako diyang mga jeep ninyo na hindi narehistro, luma, guguyurin ko 'yan sa harap niyo," he said in a speech in Caramines Sur in October. — RSJ, GMA News
